Well, we have all heard the term
"Crate Engine" used so frequently in the last few years, and we "jumped
in" too. As the market for Performance Engines (crate engines) has
absolutely mushroomed in the last few years we began to see a trend
towards "who can build the cheapest engine that has 800 HP". The
more we watched and dissected the competitors crate motors we saw some
very troubling patterns.
Obviously the appeal of "Crate
Motors" is focused around a package that has strong performance and a
great price. Unfortunately many people end up cutting corners on parts
quality and actual machining and labor costs to get you a motor at a
price. I will say the word "people" because often the company
offering the engine doesn't advertise an actual street address where
they conduct their business - or they don't want to be found! Just look
on the internet at how many people are apparently "homeless" engine
builders!
Marty and Gene have been in the
performance business in Canada since 1979. We have had the privilege to
work for major influential forces in our industry both locally and
internationally. With this multi layered background and wealth of
knowledge we can unequivocally tell you that the crate motor concept
falls short of what most consumers really want.
Would you believe a 525HP Small
Block or 625HP 572 with a stock 5 Liter oil pan? Pretty dumb EH?
(Canadian expression). Maybe o.k. on the dyno, but not in your car! How
about a blown small block with aluminum heads complete top to bottom for
less than $6000.00? If you add up the cost of parts, it's more than that
at wholesale cost, so what do you really think your getting? See a
comment from the web below - a not so satisfied crate motor customer who
bought a "Crate" motor at an unbelievable deal. We deleted the company's
name because we are not interested in slagging any one's name, just the
"Crate" Concept
This is an actual quote from a customer who
bought an engine on the internet...
"Are you about to Buy a "Brand A" engine
off of Ebay? Don't do it. I did and it was the worst mistake I ever
made. Seriously, think about it - how can they build a 400+ HP motor
with all of those quality parts and machine work and sell it for
$3,000? Here is the answer, their machine work is average at best,
they don't Port, polish, balance anything and they use cheap parts
most of which are stamped "Made in China". I could go on and on, but
I think you get the point."
In the above comment we
encourage you to not get caught up the China comment, but instead judge
the product for what it is and the company that builds it. As an
example, MSD is a well respected company in the Industry and we all know
them, but check out where they make some of their parts and products.
The guy that made the comments on the web was probably more frustrated
that the product was not a recognized quality product.
So what we want to tell you is
we could get you a ProMax Performance Motor at a competitive price, but
we won't put parts in your motor that don't cut it. Ask us
about a ProMax Performance Engine built for you, to ours and your
standards.
The old expression "you get
what you pay for" is very true, so beware of the "Super, Super Good
Deal" on the internet.
Just give Marty or Gene a call
and we can help you out of the "Crate Motor" Jungle.
Our Prices are competitive on
the products we sell. We give you solid value on your engine - you will
get the "Full Meal Deal" from us. Don't settle for the lowest common
denominator!
